2018 Weekly Race Series

Interested in local club racing at the velodrome? Look no further!

The GVVA is thrilled to announce the return of weekly Club Racing! We’re hosting 8 nights of racing on most Wednesday nights June through August, featuring shorter and fun race formats as well as tracking series points, with prizes at the series wrap on August 15th. (Note: series runs Wednesday evenings not occupied by VCL events.)

A big thank you to our series supporters for their prize contributions (over $700!): Broad St Cycles, Green Cuisine Restaurant, Oak Bay Bikes, Oak Bay Bikes Westshore, Straight Up Cycles, Vegan Supply & Very Good Butchers! (Must be present on final night to collect prizes, most will be given out by draw!)

2018 GVVA Club Racing Series

All racers participate in the same events, typically three per evening. If different laps, numbers in (brackets), they represent (A, B, C). Schedule events subject to change as series progresses. Results will be posted below. Track is open by 6pm, racing at 6:30pm sharp! Questions? Contact us!

Race cost: Free for GVVA Track Pass holders, $10 drop-in for non-members.

How Points Are Scored
It’s basically a ‘total plus one’ scoring system, so 1st place is the total number of finishers, plus one, so with 5 finishers, totals would look like this:

1st – 6pts, 2nd – 4pts, 3rd – 3pts, 4th – 2pts, 5th – 1pt

If there are 10 finishers, then results would be:

1st – 11pts, 2nd – 9pts, 3rd – 8pts, 4th – 7pts, etc..

Reasoning: number of racers can vary each night, so results are based on competition, and finishing higher always rewards with more points, rather than other fixed-scoring systems which often just reward those who win, or finish in a top place regularly.
